Welcome to Not Just Waiting!
My name is Amanda, and I am excited to finally be writing the blog I’ve been thinking about for quite some time now!
Waiting is a big part of being human. Little things keep us waiting every day, like the bus, the line at the grocery store, a response to an email or phonecall, or a tax refund check! We wait for big things too…getting a driver’s license….buying a house…..and the biggest: the return of our Lord, Jesus!
In both the small and momentous times of waiting, how we wait says a lot about who we are.
If it is God’s will for me, I want to get married. (Perhaps that’s a bold statement in this era of feminism, but it is true! I should very much love to get married, have some kids and maybe cats, dogs, cows…whatever!)
That is the reason I chose the name “Not Just Waiting” for this blog. There is much merit in patiently waiting on God to bring my future husband and I together, but when we do meet I want to be someone who was worth waiting for! Becoming the kind of woman who will be able to support and complement her husband as God intends does not happen overnight, or without effort! In order to be that kind of lady then, I have to be preparing and growing now. It is my hope that sharing the things I am working on will help and encourage others on similar journeys.
Some of my areas of study include:
Cooking
Budgeting
House Care (cleaning, organizing, etc.)
Sewing
Education (improving my own, and preparing to educate any children in my future)
Self Care
Child Care
One great thing about all these subjects is that they are universally applicable. Regardless of whether I get married or stay single, I will need to eat, manage my funds, and take care of myself and those around me. Whatever I learn, I can use it to serve the Lord in whatever situation He places me!
A little more about me…
I currently work as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter, which is a job I quite enjoy! Working with children from preschool up through high school, I’ve had a lot of fun watching them develop language, personality and character. I have also used my knowledge of interpreting and American Sign Language to provide Deaf children access to Vacation Bible School and other church activities, which is very rewarding.
I fill my spare time with a variety of activities, including….
- Music! I play piano and flute, and a little clarinet
- Reading! Mysteries, science fiction, fantasy (like Lord of the Rings), and historical fiction are my favorites. Some of my favorite authors are Jane Austen, P.G. Wodehouse, JRR Tolkien, Dee Henderson, and Agatha Christie.
- Writing! I love to write stories, poetry, and song parodies
- Historical Recreation! I play, study, and learn a lot with my local branch of the historical recreation group, the Society for Creative Anachronism. So far, I’ve learned archery, some sewing techniques, fingerloop braiding, quite a lot of history, and more!
- Pirates! On the other end of the “technology spectrum” from the SCA, I enjoy being the Captain of a pirate crew on the internet game “Puzzle Pirates.” http://puzzlepirates.com
Thank you for your time! I pray that you find something here to encourage you as you grow!
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
